Drum set configurations and hardware
Whether you are a beginner or a pro, there’s a drum set out there for you that would perfectly fit your music need. For this you need to check out the various components that combine together to give you the perfect drum set.
4 piece drum set
The components that make up a drum set are drums, cymbals and its hardware. If you want to play rock styles, blue or jazz, you have the option of getting a 4-piece drum set. This set will have a bass drum, snare drum, floor toms and single mounted toms. This drum set is easy to transport and takes up minimum floor space.
5 piece drum set
If you are looking for a drum set which would give a range of tones and sounds then opt for a 5-piece or 6-piece set. Such drums would be ideal for country style drumming, fusion, contemporary and rock.
Drum set configurations
The two basic configurations for a drum set are Fusion or standard. These configurations are directly related to the diameters of the drums you buy.
A drum set with a fusion configuration would have 10 and 12 inch mounted toms, floor tom of 14 inch and a bass drum of 22 inch. A Standard configuration set would have much larger diameters giving out much bigger tones and higher volume. A drum set with double bass lets you play powerful fast patterns.
Another option that you may think over if you have all the necessary hardware is to buy the shell pack. This shell pack has the drums but not the hardware if you already have one except the tom mounts and rims.
Drums for types of music
You should buy a drum set according to the music you would like to play. A general rule that you can follow to buy your drum set is that larger drums are fit for amplified styles and rocks, whereas smaller drums suit music like traditional blues and jazz.
Material used in drum making
The wood material used in making a drum set determines its sound quality. Maple wood drums give a warm tone and are very popular. Birch is dense and strong giving out harder sounds that are loud and bright.
Falkata is a maple substitute giving somewhat the same quality of sounds but costs a little less. Mahogany produces warmer sounds that are low end and enhanced. Basswood is a much affordable version to birch or maple. Oak gives out bright and powerful sounds and is more similar to maple drum sounds
Hardware
Important drum set hardware consists of a bass drum pedal, hi-hat stand, snare stand, and a cymbal stand. A drum rack is a frame kind of a structure which serves as an alternative to cymbals and drums on stand. It sometimes comes with a modern drum set.
Cymbals
Various cymbals sets are available for you to choose from to go with your drum set to give the sounds you like. Some of these are crash cymbals, ride cymbals, china cymbals, splash cymbals and hi-hat cymbals. Every cymbal has unique sounds.
Drum sticks
If you are buying a drum set for rock or R&B music then get yourself drum sticks that are heavier such as 2Bs.if you want to play Jazz, acoustic or folk then buy lighter sticks like 7As.
The drum set you buy can be perfect for you if you have the right hardware within the cost you can afford and one that suits the music type you want to play.
