Bath salts
Bath salt gives glow and perfection to your skin
A bath salt is a soluble compound, inorganic in nature, which is dissolved in water before bathing oneself for health, medical and cleanliness purposes.
Composition
Bath salt is a name given to chemical compounds such as magnesium sulfate known as the Epsom salt, sodium chloride known as the common salt, sodium bicarbonate and borax. Bath salt is not just the salt itself as the name implies. Instead it is a combination of various substances including multiple salts.
Common additives are perfumes, dyes, oils and foaming agents. Bath salt is available in hundreds of different fragrances and about twenty different colors. Different flavors like rose, vanilla and eucalyptus are available. An unscented one is available for people who are allergic to chemical fragrances.
An ideal bath salt contains excessive minerals but no harmful chemicals. Bath salt is prepared in either crystals or granular form. It is sold out in bags, boxes, jars and tubes. The packing is often transparent. The packing ensures the preservation of the bath salt, and also gives it a pleasant appearance. It is available in different quantities ranging from a few ounces to many pounds. The price of such a product may vary from very low to very high depending upon its chemical composition.
Benefits
While taking an ordinary shower, tap water robs the skin of essential minerals because of osmosis. Bath salt, when added to water, creates a higher concentration of minerals in the water than the skin. Hence no minerals are lost from the body and the skin is prevented from wrinkling. Instead the skin absorbs the bath salt which proves very beneficial for the body.
Each bath salt has a characteristic effect. Sodium bicarbonate, for example, is used to cure hormonal imbalance in women. Sodium chloride helps in treating psoriasis. Phosphates are used for exfoliation. Bath salt can also be used to soften hard water so that water forms more lather with soap. This enhances the cleaning action of soap. It relaxes the nervous system, softens, relaxes and smoothes the skin.
Bath salt is a muscle relaxant, stress reducer and a good source of nutrients for the skin. The most expensive type of bath salt is the Dead Sea salt. It is in its pure form and has been extracted from the Dead Sea. Using it is comparable to taking a bath in the Dead Sea which is indeed very useful.
It helps in treating skin diseases like eczema, psoriases and acne. Its usage increases the blood circulation, cures the back pain, detoxifies and moisturizes the skin. It can induce a peaceful sleep. People addicted to the use of muscle relaxants and antidepressants can easily do without these if they turn to a bath salt.
Bath salt can be used as a substitute for all the expensive lotions and creams. Usually a fifteen to twenty minutes soak does the trick. It is also employed in flotation therapy. Hence it has wide scale and countless applications, benefits and uses.
