Be secure and get a car warranty

A car warranty is an insurance policy that covers the cost of repairs if the car malfunctions or is damaged.  A car warranty is purchased before the actual product is issued. It can be used if any repairs to the vehicle are needed. But one must keep in mind that most warranties do not include routine maintenance like oil changes. Because every warranty issuing company is different, you have to do a little research before you commit to any policies.

Why is a car warranty important?

A car warranty is a guarantee given by the vendor to the buyer assuring him or her that the product is reliable and free of known defects. Buyers are assured, under certain conditions, that any defective parts will be replaced within the time limit specified by the warranty.

A new car warranty is categorized as one of two types. One is the general warranty, and the other is the power train warranty. The general warranty covers all damages that occur from bumper to bumper, but the power train warranty covers particular components of the motor for an extended period of time.

Period of coverage

The general car warranty is for a period of three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.  Once the period lapses, the owner cannot claim any damages.

Before purchasing a warranty, a buyer should obtain as much knowledge about the issues involved in a warranty as possible. The buyer has to know the extent of coverage, which means he or she has to specifically know what types of damage are covered by the car warranty. The buyer has to keep track of any updated information and should be familiar with the different clauses and terms of the car warranty.

The general car warranty may include a power train policy, in addition to coverage against all damages that occur from bumper to bumper.  Power train warranties are for an extended period and take effect after the general warranty expires. This warranty covers the engine, transaxle, transmission, drive system, and other parts that are related to the engine and wheels. Mechanical breakdowns that occur after the warranty period are not covered; however, the owner does have the option of purchasing an extended warranty.

What is an extended car warranty?

An extended car warranty is bought in addition to the standard warranty. It is a great investment and can save consumers a lot of money in the long run. Once the primary warranty expires, the extended warranty period begins. Extended warranties can be bought upon buying the car or when the normal warranty expires. The extended warranty provides protection against any mechanical failures and breakdown.

Extended car warranties are available for both new and used cars, and they are the best way to minimize various repair expenses.

Used car warranty rates depend on the car’s mileage. When a car warranty is bought for a used car, the owner must make an effort to understand the limits of its coverage.
